I met the love of my life on the London underground. I noticed this cute guy on that same carriage as me. He was with some friends and, told me later on, he didn't notice me. We happened to leave the train on the same stop (where we both lived). I could feel him standing behind me on the escalator as I left the station. I really wanted to talk to him but wanted him to initiate. He had gone to add money to his travel card so, as I walked away from the station I slowed my pace, stopped on all the red lights even though there was no traffic at all. He caught up and I intentionally synchronized my steps to his. He summoned the courage to talk to me, asked my name and how I was. He asked if I wanted to go for a coffee the following day. We exchanged numbers then, and, to this date, 10 years later (this Saturday) I still remember our nervous young love energy, all the butterflies. We went for coffee on a Sunday morning, we went for a walk, he asked me if I wanted a second coffee (he really wanted to stretch that date). We fell in love, madly, fast. I thought it was a sliding doors moment, that train encounter, but later we found out that despite moving around a fair bit within London, we both had lived in the same area, multiple times - like the Universe wanted us to meet. We belong together. We absolutely adore each other still, a different love, a deep grown up love, with two wonderful children, bills to pay and less time. But, as my aunt would say, we always something to say to each other. I feel the luckiest person in the world that I found him.
What a beautiful love story! I love all the close encounters along the way - it was most certainly meant to be. and I adore your Aunt's saying—what a lucky thing for sure! Thank you for sharing this!
My husband and I met on Tinder, which is hilarious because we *could* have met so many other times.
- He grew up in Lubbock, TX, where I frequently visited my mom's side of the family (and eventually went to college). In Lubbock, he worked at the movie theater my cousin and I went to every time I visited, so he probably tore my ticket at some point.
- We both ended up in Austin, TX, where I applied for a position at the small publishing company he worked at. I ultimately didn't get the position (which is good because my husband is adamant he wouldn't have dated a coworker), but I had three interviews, so we probably crossed paths.
- The first time he took me to the house he rented with some roommates, I felt deja vu turning on to the street, and then he pulled up to a house that *my* roommates and I had toured and tried to get. Like, we actually tried to steal it when we heard there were other applicants (who turned out to be my husband and his roommates LOL), but were unsuccessful. 😅
THEN at our wedding, my aunt turned to my mother-in-law and said "Are you Carol [Maiden Name]?" and it turns out they took piano lessons together when they were kids! AND they discovered that my uncle and his dad did the electrical work when Carol's dad built his house decades ago. Truly so weird!
my post party figure is so glad to not slip into skinny jeans right now! haha, but I think I read they are coming back, so maybe your wish will come true! xx
This was such a lovely story and I loved reading it! I've always thought (as an internet onlooker) that you seemed perfect for each other ❤️ My husband and I have a cute story too; I think. My family lived in Dubai, and Joel did a study abroad program there. Three weeks before he went home for Christmas, we met across the volleyball net (at the home of a family that hosted volleyball for expats every week after church. I was terrible at it!). It was pretty much instant, and we were messaging on Facebook as well as thrown together a lot because of Christmas parties and events and a church conference. Everyone around us could tell 😆 The crazy part is that even though we met in the UAE, we're from the same part of Washington State, so I knew there was a chance I could see him again. Eventually he moved to Dubai to pursue a relationship 🥹 we've been married almost 15 years and have four kids. (And moved back to America just over a year after getting married!)
Loved reading this and love the idea of a love story column! How fun. Enjoy that baby bliss. xx
Thank you! We just stare at her and kiss her all day 🥹🫶🏻
What a great start of your love story! Thanks for sharing, these are the kind of juicy stories I always enjoy!
I love juicy stories too! 😂🫶🏻

Whoa! So many almost encounters!! Feels very serendipitous.
I'm about the same age as you, and I really miss that early- to mid-2000's style. I miss my skinny jeans!

Dubai! So exotic! And what a gesture, to move there to date! Love this - thank you for sharing.
